INTRODUCTION
Agra is a famous tourist city in Uttar Pradesh state of India. It is about 205 kms south of India's current capital Delhi city. Agra is a historical city and one time Indian capital. It is located on the bank of Yamuna river. It is known world wide due to Taj Mahal which counted among 7 wonders of the world. From tourism point of view, Agra have 3 UNESCO world heritage sites i.e. Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and abandoned city "Fatehpur Sikri". In addition to this, their are large number of other monuments to watch in Agra and its surrounding areas. It is counted among must visit tourism cities of India. AGRA HISTORY
Popular Agra history is mostly recognised with Mughal dynasty who ruled most in Agra and gave its current look. As they spend, very long time in Agra so most of the current historical sites of Agra are associated with Mughal rule period. Agra city is mentioned in Hindu epic "Mahabharata" and is referred as "Agrevana" name which means "Border of the forest". It is believed that foundation of city is laid by Raja Badal Singh which was the Sikarwar Rajput King (1475 A.D.). He had his fort called Badalgarh at the same Agra Fort site which means, Agra Fort is modified version of old Hindu fort. Agra was first declared capital of India in 16th century when Sultan Sikandar Lodhi shifted capital from Delhi to Agra in 1506. It was the first time in Agra history when it was became Capital of India. Lodhi rule prevailed till 1526 when Ibrahim Lodhi was defeated by Battle of Panipat by Mughal emperor Babur and capital was shifted again to Delhi. After death of Babur, Sher Shah Suri overthrown Babur's son Humayun and ruled over the area from 1540 to 1556 and ruled from Delhi. Later Mughal emperor Humayun fought back and again established Mughal empire and capital reinstated to Agra. Mughal ruled over the Agra from 1556 to 1658. This period was considered as golden period of Agra and was main power center of Indian in those days. During the rule of Mughal emperors Akbar, Jehangir and Shahjahan, Agra flourished, expanded and taken its actual shape. In later years of his rule, Shah Jahan shifted the capital from Agra to Delhi but soon his son Aurangzeb dethroned Shah Jahan and bring back capital from Delhi to Agra. After Aurangzeb, Mughal empire started diminishing in power by 17th century. Later in 18th century, Agra came under British rule till independence.

TAJ MAHAL
Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan's favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is counted among wonders of the world and used as icon image in tourism of incredible India. In simple words, "Taj" means "Crown" and "Mahal" means "Palace". Taj Mahal was built in Agra city, on the bank of Yamuna river. Mumtaz Mahal dies in year 1631 during delivery of 14th child, at Burhanpur town in western Madhya Pradesh. For sometime, her body was burried in Burhanpur and later shifted to Agra. Construction of Taj Mahal begins in year 1632 and completed in 1653. It tooks 20 years to complete and is a result of combined effort of 20000 efficient workers which includes artists, craftsmen. In year 1983, Taj Mahal was listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Their are monuments in world that represents its country like Eiffel Tower in France, Statue of Liberty in America. Similar is the status of Taj in India.

LANGUAGE
At Agra city, Hindi is the prominently used language. Almost all the citizens, knows Hindi language. In addition to this educated youth, people around tourist spots knows English language. As it is a important tourist city, most of the taxi operators, auto-rickshaw operators, police men knows English language but not fluent in this language. Other languages like French, German, Spanish is limited to trained tourist guides only whom we can find nearby prominent tourist spots like Taj Mahal, Agra fort, Fatehpur Sikri.

Agra lies in plains of Yamuna river. Here all three weather can be experienced i.e. winters, summers and monsoon. Winter season starts from November to remains till March. December and January is the peak winter time. Average temperature in winters is 3°'C in morning and 16°C in daytime. Summer season starts from April and lasts till July. During this time May - June is peak summer time when city remains under heat waves. Average temperature in summers is 26°'C in morning and 40°C in daytime. During this time, tourism activities remains very limited. City usually receives monsoon in last week of July month and rainy season lasts till October. Average temperature in monsoon season is 22°'C in morning and 35°C in daytime. Now a days, some dramatic climatic changes has been seen which is surprising to us.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
Agra monument are open for visitors, throughout the year. Taj Mahal is closed on Every Friday. One visit Agra monuments at any season of a year. Most of the tourists arrival has been registered from period of October to April. It is considered as the best time to visit Agra. During this time, India receives most of the tourists. It is time of winters in India due to which climatic condition, festivals and holidays lies in this period due to which it is considered as best time to visit Agra and India.
