INTRODUCTION

Khajuraho is a world level heritage tourism destinations. It is counted among must visit tourist destinations of India. It is located at Madhya Pradesh state in Central India and has important role in development of Madhya Pradesh tourism. It is a small town, known for medieval sand-stone temples having magnificent sculpture work. All these temples were made during rule of Chandela Kings from 9th to 11th century. After this period, due to raise of Islamic forces in India, they conducted mass demolition of temples and city was left by local citizens. This caused major setback for maintenance & care of these temples. In year 1852, during British India rule, Captain T.S. Burt put focus on these temples and re-invented and re-introduced to world.

MUSEUM
It was year 1910 when Mr. W.A. Jardine put felt the need properly preserve & showcase ruins of these temples, scattered over a large area. During that time, he was pasted as British government officer in Bundelkhand region. He took active initiative to collect the temple ruins, statues etc. scattered in this region and put them in an open enclosure, just adjoinint to Matangeshwar temple in Wester Group of Temples. This was then known as Jardine Museum, until Archeological Survey of India took over its charge in year 1952. Present building was built in year 1967, offering better showcase of these sculpture artifacts, statues etc. At present this museum is having 3424 registered antiquities of different religions like Hindu, Buddhist, Jainism. Museum is divided into 5 broad categories which includes divine nymphs, cult images, secular sculptures, animal sculptures and minor deities. It is open for visitors from 10:00 AM to 5:00PM and remains closed on every Friday. For visiting this museum, visitors are required to pay nominal entrance fee.

By Train
Khajuraho is connected by train. Although connectivity is not so good by it is a option. Further most of the tourists are reaching from Satna railway station (130kms), Mahoba railway station (60kms), Jhansi station, Katni railway station(190kms). These are the best ways for visiting Khajuraho museum and town.

By Road
It is well connected by bus. It has its own bus stand. Other nearby bus-stands are Rajnagar bus-stand, Chhatarpur bus stand etc. Regular bus service is available from Panna, Jhansi, Gwalior, Satna etc.

CLIMATE & WEATHER
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Best time to visit Khajurao museum is from October to March. Although it is open throughout the year but majority of tourists like to visit during this period due to availability of travel options for other connecting destinations like Panna national park, Bandhavgarh etc.
