Madhya Pradesh is located in Central India. Being a important tourism region, Madhya Pradesh state is visited by tourist through out the year. Broadly we can divide Madhya Pradesh tourism in three categories: Heritage tourism, Wildlife Tourism & Cultural Tourism. Heritage tourism is active in Northern part of state which is more rocky and destinations comes under this region are Gwalior, Shivpuri, Orchha, Khajuraho, Panna, Chanderi, Datia etc. These regions still have marks of princely India. All these destination encompasses popular palaces, forts, temples, cenotaphs of state. Best time to visit this region is from October to April as during this time climate remain pleasant and good.

Southern part, south-east region and some of the Northern region of Madhya Pradesh are rich in Wildlife which includes Tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bear, Hard-ground Barasingha, Indian Gaur, Wild Dog (Dholes) and atleast more than 300 bird species. Popular national parks & tiger reserves of state like Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Satpura national park are located in this part of state. They have worldwide popularity. They can be visited from October to June which means their best time to visit is during winter & summer season. In monsoon season, these reserves remain closed.

South-west region of state is called sacred Madhya Pradesh due to some important pilgrimage destinations located here. Lifeline river of Madhya Pradesh state passes through this region. Narmada is a holy river in Central India and its origin is in Madhya Pradesh. It is believed to be among oldest rivers of India, present since far before origin of Himalaya & Ganges. Most of the sacred regions like Amarkantak, Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar are on the way of Narmada river. Among them Ujjain & Omkareshwar have jyotirlinga temples. They are open for visitors throughout the year and are the best place to see the hindu cultural activities, religious believes, rituals, festival celebrations. During monsoon, power or river remains at its peak and natural beauty were in its best stage. In Dhar, Amarkantak, Kanha are also the places to see the tribal cultural and their lifestyle.
