Karera Wildlife Sanctuary

It is a popular wildlife sanctuary on the way from Shivpuri to Jhansi known for bird watching. It is one of the best places in Central India for birding. It is established as a wildlife sanctuary in year 1981 and is spread over an area of 202 sq.kms. Its management & control is under Field Director of Madhav National Park in Shivpuri district. The nearest airport to Karera is at Gwalior, which is 170 km away from sanctuary. Pre-paid taxi services are available from the Gwalior airport to Karera Bird Sancturay

Reaching Karera by Train/ Railways :-
The nearest railhead to Karera wildlife sanctuary is Pendra Road at a distance of 17 km from the heart of the city. Shivpuri is at distance of 50 km from Karera wildlife sanctuary is also conveniently accessible for the tourists.

Reaching Karera wildlife sanctuary by Bus / Roadways :-
As it is on Shivpuri - Jhansi connecting road, one can easily reach this bird sanctuary by bus but for visiting the sanctuary, a separate petrol vehicle as per forest department norms will be required.
