Dhar Fort

INTRODUCTION

Dhar fort is situated on the hill, Just 03 km away to the central area of the town. Dhar is a district of central state of India, Madhya Pradesh. Dhar lies in the Malwa region of central India and the Fort is shaped on a rectangular hillock built by Mohammad Tughlak in 1344 A.D., the material used to make this Fort is taken from this small mound which is consist with the red stone, black stone, solid muram. The main entrance of the fort was built to the west. Once Dhar was to be the capital of the legendry king Bhoj, since Alauddin Khilji got the throne of Delhi, Islamic influence started spreading in Dhar, that resulting of many monuments, structure and this fort. Dhar was the quite prominent centre at the time of 1857 revolt, and then this fort was occupied by the Indian freedom fighters and kept in their possession for four months from July to October. There is many other things inside the Fort, those are quite important as Kharbuja Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, history articulate that Jehangir took part to make Sheesh Mahal and Dara Shikoh, who was the eldest son of Shahjehan taken shelter in this fort. Meanwhile Karbuja palace, which has got this name because of its musk melon shape, was built in 16th century A.D. Pawar dynasty captured this fort in 1732 A.D. and acquired it as royal palace. During Maratha struggle Anandi Bai, the wife of Raghunath Rao, took shelter here, and she gave birth to Peshwa Bajirao II in this place. Vairasinha Parmar conquered Dhar in the 10 century AD and made his capital. The greatest of the parmar rulers of Dhar, however, was the legendary Raja Bhoj: warrior, statesman, visionary and scholar who ruled from 1010 to 1055. According to a persistence legend, this king set up a university in Dhar in what was, once, a temple to the goddess of learning, Saraswati. It’s known as the Bhoj-Shala. But after such a long span of time with many variations of climate that it has bear yet, and human vandalism of course, caused the huge damage on its shine and royalty, as nowadays wooden door panels of the main gates had been cluttered, Bastions and fortification wall had collapsed due to neglect, lack of maintenance, water seepage and growth of trees and heavy shrubs. But administration has started to execute repairing plans to control further deterioration; there is a plan to carve new wooden door panels with carrying same design and pattern, fortification wall was strengthened, plinth protection work was done by using sand stone slab over lime.

HOW TO REACH

By Air: The nearest airport for reaching Dhar is Indore (IDR), which is only 64 km from Maheshwar. As Indore is a financial capital of the central state of India Madhya Pradesh, one can get wide air connectivity for all major cities of India like Mumbai, Bhopal, and Delhi from here or for here. Delhi which is the National Capital of India is at a distance of 894 km from Indore, and from Delhi on can board the flight for any destination abroad or domestic. Major Air carriers like Spice jet, Air India, Indigo, Jet Airways provides their air services widely inbound and outbound for all major Indian cities and abroad.
By Train: Though Dhar doesn’t have its own railway station, but there is a nearest one which is Indore, 64 km from Dhar. lying in the Chennai-Mumbai rail route. There are few trains from various destinations to Indore -
By Road: There is a major road transport structure for reaching Dhar, as one can get in to the bus if he wants to reaches here from Indore, which is only 64 km away. Dhar is located at a distance of 33 km from Maheshwar, 35 km from Mandu. All places are prominent in term to cultural & pilgrim tour and one can cover Dhar along with these places. Buses ply regularly from and to these places. Here you can avail of autos, buses or jeeps to reach Dhar.
