INTRODUCTION
Hanuwantiya tapu is a newly introduced water tourism destination in Madhya Pradesh tourism. It is a popular water sports tourism destination of incredible Madhya Pradesh. Famous Jal Mahotsav festival is organized at same site. It is developed & promoted by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. The name "Hanuwantiya" is derived from local village name with same name which lies in Malhagarh Tehsil of Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh. State Tourism Department found this region suitable for water tourism activity so decided to develop it in which they developed the boat-clup, accommodation facility, ensured good road connectivity etc.
ABOUT INDIRA SAGAR DAM
Indira Sagar Dam is a multipurpose dam project at Madhya Pradesh in Central India. It was built on Narmada river which flows from Central India to Western India. Project foundation stone was laid in year 1984 by Prime Minister of India but main-dam construction started in year 1992, many years later. It was completed in year 2003 and now in use. Its reservoir is counted among largest reservoirs of India with holding capacity of 12.22 billion cu.m.
TOURISM
Backwater of Indira Sagar Dam forms a huge lake having enormous potential for tourism development. Hanumantiya is developed to exploit the backwater of this dam for tourism development in this region. Realizing this fact, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department took initiative to develop the site and avail accommodation for tourists. It offers accommodation, restaurant and boating, cruise ride facility on backwater. For accommodation, only one hotel is available called "Hanuwantiya Tourist Complex" which is of MPSTDC. Surrounding area of dam is also good for nature tourism which includes birdwatching, mammals sighting. While visiting the Indore Tourist Circuit, one can include this water tourism destination also. It is just 140kms from Maheshwar and 95kms from Omkareshwar which shows how feasible to include it in tour plans.

By Air:
Nearest airport for reaching Hanuwantiya tapu is Indore Airport (IATA code:IDR). It is about 150 kms from island.

By Train/ Railways :
Nearest railway station is Khandwa station but popular option is Indore railway station due to good connectivity and best available taxi options. Distance from Khandwa railway station to Hanumantiya Island is just approx. 50 kms where as Indore railway station is 150 kms.
By Road:
For visiting this island site, you will get all categories of taxi service from Indore city.
CLIMATE & WEATHER
Here all 3 seasons can be experienced. Winter begins from November to March. During this period, average temperature remains 5°C in morning hours and 18°C in day time. Summer season begins from April to June when temperature reached 45°C in day time where as after sunset temperature remains under 24°C. Monsoon season usually prevails from July to October.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Hanuwantiya tapu is accessible throughout the year. Here main activity is boat ride which is possible when dam will have sufficient water level and their is no rainfall. So according this peak summers and monsoon season should be avoided which means October to April is the best time to visit this destination. During this period, climate remains clean and dam will have good amount of water in reservoir.
ACCOMMODATION
For accommodation at MPT Hanuwanitya Resort is the best option. Throughout the year, it remains open for tourists. During Jal Mahotsav festival period, tourists will get more accommodation options due to introduction of tented city in which different categories of tented accommodation options are offered. These tent options are for Jal Mahotsav period only.
