Pachmarhi was not a populated village at the time of British arrival. It was in the reign of Gond King Bhawut Singh. Captain James Forsyth of the British Army along with Subhedar Major Nathoo Ramji Powar who was later made the Kotwal (Incharge of the armoury of Pachmarhi, spotted the plateau in the Pachmarhi region in 1857, while leading his troops on the way to Jhansi. Most of its area is under the administration of the Pachmarhi Cantonment Board, serving the Indian Army. It is not a large town. The climate here is mild, and generally warm and temperate. When compared with winter, the summers have much more rainfall. December is the coldest month of the year. Tourists visit Pachmarhi throughout the year due to the popularity of Pachmarhi. Apsara Vihar is naturally formed pool with a beautiful and small waterfall. Fondly known as Fairy Pool, Apsara Vihar is situated in the hills of Pachmarhi near Pandava Caves. The 30 feet high waterfall forms a shallow pool, which is a popular picnic spot among locals as well as tourists. Water of the pool is perfect for swimming and diving. The water comes from the Rajat prapat to Apsara falls.
Pachmarhi was the summer capital of Britishers. According to a tell, For beat the summer English women used to bathe in this pool during the British rule time in India. As the English ladies wore white clothes while bathing, locals thought them to be fairies and hence named the pool as Apsara Vihar or Fairy Pool. This waterfall is one of the best waterfall in Pachmarhi.It was deep inside the Jungle. One has to walk little down in the Jungle & there you see a small but beautiful waterfall there. It was not a big one but a small waterfall with a good platform to sit & enjoy the nice flow of water. Better to take caution near the waterfall platform because that area is deep enough. Located just 13 km away from the Pachmarhi bus stand, Apsara Vihar can be reached through gypsy, which can be hired by tourists.

By Flight : Apsara Vihar water-fall is located in Pachmarhi. Its nearest airport is Bhopal Raja Bhoj Airport at a distance of 220kms. It is well connected from important cities like Delhi, Mumbai etc. Second best option is Jabalpur's Dumna Airport (250kms) and third best option is Nagpur Airport (300kms).

Best time to visit Apsara fall is from October to May month. During this period, large number of tourists visit this waterfall. In case of heavy rainfall, this site remains closed for visitors.
