Ghatigaon wildlife sanctuary is located near Gwalior city of northern Madhya Pradesh. It is mainly known for conservation efforts directed towards revival of Great Indian Bustard (Ardeotis nigriceps) population in India. Thus it is also referred wtih the name of Ghatigaon Bustard Sanctuary. It is said to be spread over 511 sq. kms. area, 20 kms west of Gwalior city and extended till Tigra dam. Sanctuary was established in year 1981 to protect natural habitat of Great India Bustard and many other birds. In addition to these birds, we can also have sighting of wild animals like Wild Boar, Black bucks, Chital, Striped Hyena etc. Here we can expect 73 bird species belonging to 42 families and 67 benera. It is a mixed dry deciduous forest thus we can most find low shrubland and some woodland patches. In trees, predominant species are of Khair (Senegalia catechu), Tendu (Diospyros melanoxylon), Dhawara (Anogeissus, Acacia) etc. During sanctuary visit, we will notice that majority of birds population is seen in woodlands followed by scrublands. Whereas minority of birds population is seen in grassland areas and Tighra dam reservoir.
Reaching Ghatigaon wildlife sanctuary is convenient for any visitor. It is just 20kms from Gwalior city of Madhya Pradesh. As Gwalior is very well connected by flight, train and road options thus sanctuary can be reached by all these modes of transportation.

Here we can experience all 3 seasons i.e. winters, summers and monsoon season. Winters can be experienced from December to March months. Summers season can be experience from April to July month. Where as monsoon rainfall can be experienced from mid of July to mid of October. This region receives average rainfall.
As it is a birding sanctuary thus we can expect more tourism in winter period when this region receives majority of migratory birds. As world famous Keoladeo national park is in same region thus best time to visit Ghatigaon wildlife sanctuary is winters i.e. from December to March month.
