Gandhi Sagar dam

Gandhi Sagar dam is located in Eastern Madhya Pradesh, on Chambal river. It is a masonry gravity dam which lies in Mandsaur district of MP. It is one of the 4 major dams built on Chambal river. Its approx. height is 62 meter and length is 514 meters. Its foundation stone was laid by Indian prime minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru on 1954 and it took approx. 06 years in overall construction thus it get completed by the year 1960. This dam generates total 564 GWh energy with the help of hydroelectric power station and later on the same released water was used for agricultural irrigation purpose. Apart from this, such dams play important role in flood control and water storage thus it has great importance for this region.

How to reach

Gandhi Sagar dam is located in north-west of Madhya Pradesh in Malwa region.
Near by airport options = Indore airport (255 km), Udaipur (Rajasthan) airport (210 km)
Near by railway stations = Mandsaur station (70 km), Neemuch station (115 km) and Bhawani Mandi station (55 km)
After reaching nearby airport and railway stations, further journey is be done by taxi vehicle.

Gandhi Sagar dam is counted among popular water tourism destinations of Madhya Pradesh. Due to back water presence, here boating is possible thus it is an ideal destination for boat tourism. In addition to this, this region is surrounded by Gandhi Sagar wildlife sanctuary thus here we can enjoy jungle safari experience in which birding, wildlife photography, nature walks activities can be done.
