Introduction

Tawa dam is made on confluence of Tawa river and Denwa river at Satpura national park of Madhya Pradesh in Central India. Considering the natural beauty of this location, it was developed as a destination for water tourism and relaxation. It lies in Hoshangabad district, almost at central region of Madhya Pradesh state. Here two rivers, Tawa river and Denwa river have their confluence point and later it falls in Narmada river thus at ideal location, this dam was constructed in between 1958 to 1978. It covers an area of 524 sq.km. which falls in Satpura national park, Bori wildlife sanctuary and Pachmarhi wildlife sanctuary. The benefit of this location is that it has natural boundaries of Satpura hills and at confluence point, dam gets water from two different sources thus probability of getting sufficient water is high. Considering the scenic beauty of this place and scope for tourism, MPSTDC developed their hotel for accommodation of visitors so that they can stay here and enjoy the scenic beauty in relaxed mood. While staying here, they can enjoy boat ride experience and do the birding. Tawa dam site is also a good getaway option for citizens of Bhopal city, Indore city, Betul, Hoshangabad town.

Reaching Tawa dam by Flight

Nearest airport for reaching Tawa dam site is Bhopal Raja Bhoj airport. Travel distance is 140kms. Its flight connectivity is very good thus majority of tourists prefer this airport for visiting this site. Still if you would not able to find your destination, then consider Nagpur airport at 250kms as the next best option. Although it lies in Maharashtra state but still it is very well connected airport and road connectivity is also very good. We arrange cab transfers from Nagpur airport to Tawa dam resort.

Tawa dam resort at this location is just 33 kms from Itarsi junction station. It is very well connected railway station thus majority of tourists uses this railway station for their arrival and departures. It has good train connectivity from places like Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Agra, Varanasi, Ahmedabad etc. 

Reaching Tawa dam by Bus / Roadways

Tourists visiting Tawa dam, visit Tawa dam resort of MPSTDC to avail the tourism facilities and stay. It is apporox. 11 kms inside from National Highway 46 thus tourists can have bus facility till NH-46 but for further journey, they need their personal vehicle or hire a cab. It is close from cities like Hoshangabad, Itarsi, Bhopal, Betul, Indore, Nagpur, Omkareshwar etc. Majority of people visiting this site, uses their own car or hire a cab to travel conveniently.

Tawa dam tourism involves staying at MPT Tawa dam resort and doing its associated activities. Here we can enjoy morning sunrise and sunset views from resort garden area. In free time, we have option to do cruise ride on backwater of dam and enjoy the scenic beauty of Satpura tiger reserve. Those who are interested in additional activity, they have option to book jungle safari option at Satpura national park. Here resort will arrange a boat transfer from resort to Madhai gate, followed by jeep safari and similarly return back through boat ride. For regular or back to back safaris, better to stay at Madhai gate resort.

Climate and Weather

Here we can experience all 3 seasons i.e. summers, monsoon and winters. We can experience summers from March end till mid of July month. During this period, temperature in daytime will remain above 37 Deg cel. Here we can experience heat waves situation from April to mid of June month thus tourists movement remain limited. Monsoon clouds reaches Madhya Pradesh by mid of July month thus we will notice a shift in climatic condition from beginning of July month. Monsoon season remains active from July till end of September month. During this time, tourists restrict there movement as per climatic condition. It is a very peaceful period with scenic natural views. During winters from November end till mid of February, tourism will remain high and one can enjoy the boating activities at the backwater area.

Best time to visit

This place is open for visitors, through out the year but for backwater tourism, best time to visit is from November to March months. During this period, more tourists prefer to visit this place and enjoy the holidays.
