Difference between Sharing and Non-sharing Safari

While planning our wildlife safari tour, we have to decide how many safaris to undertake and how many of them need to be in private mode and where we can take sharing safari option. In order to take a good decision, we should must understand both the modes of doing jungle safaris. Analyze the benefits and challenges of both the modes and according to our budget and preferences, we can take decision and proceed further.

Title Non-Sharing or Private Safari Sharing Safari
Pricing Non-sharing safari are always costly in compare to sharing mode of jeep safaris. These safaris are cheaper than private safaris thus suitable for low budget travelers.
Quota Number of safari vehicle quota of non-sharing safaris are more than sharing safaris Very few vehicles are offered in this category thus seats get filled rapidly.
Safari Zone Non-sharing or private safaris are offered in both core safari zones and buffer safari zones Sharing safaris are operated only in core zones and not in buffer safari zones.
Hotel pick & drop facility If you have booked private mode of safari then safari vehicle will do the pick and drop from your resort. For this they add additional charge, as per distance from entry gate and it is part of safari system. When we book shared safari or single seat mode of permit then safari-vehicle will be placed at entry gate and guest have to reach the gate by own arrangement. Many times visitors use their taxi for this duty.
Personalization Non-sharing or private safaris are more personalized as safari guide and driver have to report to single party thus information exchange is better and guide also put more efforts. Thus here overall experience is better. In shared safari, mostly experienced that safari guide and driver remain destracted due to multiple parties thus they put limited efforts, information exchange remains limited and thus overall experience is average.
Congestion issue At Madhya Pradesh, safari vehicles can accommodate maximum 06 visitors. In private safaris, mostly we will find 2-4 visitors. Thus here we have control to create or adjust space for us especially when we have camera with large lens.  Due to low cost, shared safaris are mostly fully packed with 06 passengers. They can be of any body size thus here we often feel congestion problem due to which our safari experience deteriorates, photography becomes difficult.
Delayed entry Due to single safari party, here safari vehicle moves as per our own preparedness and punctuality. No dependence on others. Due to different safari parties, here safari vehicle entry remains dependent on collective punctuality of all safari parties. If anyone party reaches late then others have to suffer. Delayed entry is most common problem as manytimes we face non-serious visitors, lazy in approach and spoils safari experience. Such delays oftens results into disputes in between visitors.
Disputes & dissatisfaction Private safaris are mostly free from any disputes as control is in hand of one safari party. Here dissatisfaction may arise when we get below average safari guide or driver. At sharing safaris, safari control is in multiple hands thus every party tries to drive safari as per his/her preference this often results into disputes and dissatisfaction.
Risk on cancellation Non-sharing safaris are most costly thus here we have to pay high cancellation charges, if safari cancels due to our choice. In shared safaris, we have booked permit on per seat basis thus here our cancellation loss will be minimum or less in compare to private safaris.

Conclusion

By reading above analysis, we can conclude that both the modes of jungle safaris have their own set of pros and cons. As per our preference we can choose in between private and sharing safaris. Sometimes tourists use combination of sharing and non-sharing safaris to reduce their safari costing by studying the expectations from various safari rounds. For example, if tourists want to cover all safari zones of a national park then they may try to use private safaris for popular safari zone and use sharing safari for unpopular safari zone. This gives them chance to invest more where we expect more return and invest less where we expect below average results.
