Madhya Pradesh Pilgrimage

Introduction

Central India Temples

Madhya Pradesh is a land of spirituality due to presence of many holy places and sacred destinations. It is a land of large tribal population living in close association of nature and forest and they treat these natural sources as their god. Similarly here Hindu religion followers are in majority who also believe in same ideology in which definition of god and worship is wide in which every part of nature which benefits human society deserves worship and regard. State of Madhya Pradesh be blessed with nature where nature tourism destinations dominates. If we carefully notice the spread of sacred destinations of Madhya Pradesh like Amarkantak, Jabalpur, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Ujjain, Orchha, Chitrakoot etc are on the river bank. Reason behind this is that water is the lifeline of any human civilization and thus all our ancient townships were established nearby rivers due to this majority of temple sites are also on river bank. and thus these forests are their pilgrimage places.

River Pilgrimage

In Hindus, nature is considered as god because it supports our existence and in return we provide them status of eternal power i.e. god. Here we will get a surprising level of devotion in which a whole Narmada river is considered as goddess and thus devotees pledge to undertake a holy journey to encircle the river. In first hearing, it seems impossible or highly unusual commitment but while visiting Madhya Pradesh we will realize that it is a possible task for which a proper system has been developed by state government and local society in which proper pathway was developed for devotees in which we will walk or use vehicle to encircle the Narmada river with condition of not to cross the river at any point. On this pathway local ashrams (holy sites with accommodation facility) are developed to offer stay and meal service to such devotees. It is popular known as Narmada Parikrama. Similarly doing evening arti of river is another form of respect and worship of holy rivers. This can be observed at many places like in Jabalpur at Gwarighat place, at Ujjain on Shipra river ghat, at Panchvati ghat of Bhedaghat area etc.
