Kharbuja mahal is basically located inside the Dhar fort complex at western part of Madhya Pradesh. Here Kharbuja refers to summer season fruit musk-melon. As the domes in the building seems like musk-melon, this name was given to this palace building. it is a double storied building constructed during 16th century, reflecting the Mughal and Rajput architectures. Its ground floor have seven rooms and upper floor have four rooms. Ground floor rooms are more for outside visitors, guests thus privacy level is less where as upper floor rooms offer good private stay thus it was used by for family members. Due to average maintenance and care, with the passage of time, it lost its lustre. Still its history is its significance. This building is the place where Maratha military generals stayed with their family and used it as home. Here Raghunathrao or Raghoba dada, son of Peshwa Bajirao-1 took shelter and his wife Anandi Rao gave birth to Bajirao- II in 10th Jan 1774.

Best time to visit

Here climatic condition decides the best time to visit. Majority of tourists are visiting in winter season and monsoon period. Due to high temperature of Malwa region, in summer season, day time sightseeing is very inconvenient for tourists thus they avoid visiting in this season. From nearby cities and towns, large number of tourists undertake Dhar visit as excursion tour in monsoon season. Due to surrounding greenery, whole region looks very scenic and photogenic.
