When we talk about architectural classic temples of India, name of Kakanmath temple at Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, has been taken with great proud. It is one of the temple which disobeys the law of gravity. Kakanmath temple is located at small village of Sihoniya, about 60 kms north-east of Gwalior city. While staying at Gwalior city, we can travel this place by surface transfer medium like taxi vehicle. This temple is believed to be built on 11th century by Raja Kirtiraj, on the behest of his queen Kakanwati thus name was given as Kakanmath temple. It is just one belief. Some expert believes that name is derived from word Kanak means Gold and math means holy shrine. The name of ruling dynasty is Kachchhapaghata. Here stone are seems to have been placed randomly as one above another and surprising fact is that no adhesive or binding paste has been applied thus perfect example of craftsmanship. Stones are arranged in such a calculated way that they are distributing the body weight in such a way that it is intact since 11th century and despite of climatic effects, temple is still standing intact. At present it is an inactive temple whose statues were shifted to Gwalior, for security reasons. Inscriptions found at Sas-bahu temple (Sahastrabahu temple) put light on Kachchhapaghata rule.
As mentioned above, Kakanmath temple lies in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, in northern most part of state. It is very well accessible from Gwalior city. Tourists are visiting this architectural marvel as an excursion tour, most by using there own car or taxi vehicle.
