INTRODUCTION

Ater fort in Bhind lies in Madhya Pradesh state, close to Uttar Pradesh border. It lies in 100 kms north- east of Gwalior city. This fort was built by Bhadauria rulers Badan Singh, Maha Singh and Bakhat Singh in between 1664 to 1668 AD. Derived from the name of Bhadauria rulers, this area was known by the name as Badhwar. This fort is located in the ravines of Chambal, close to Chambal river. It is just 35 km from Bhind town. Tourists visiting Chambal Gharial Sanctuary or Chambal river bank for birding, often goes to visit this hill top fort.

Reaching Ater Fort by Train/ Railways

For visiting Ater fort site by train journey, nearest railway station option is Bhind railway station. It lies on Gwalior - Agra train route thus all important trains traveling from South India to Delhi or Central India to Delhi, passes through this station. Only matter is to check their stoppage. Due to small railway station, it is possible that some trains will not have stoppage here. In such condition, tourists may consider Agra Cantt station or Gwalior station as the point to reach by train and do further journey by cab option.

As we know that Ater fort is located in ravines of Chambal thus it is a dry or arid region in which land is not fertile and rainfall is also below average. Due to arid region, we can't expect green lands or agricultural fields in surrounding region but dry ravines with uneven heights, dry deciduous thorny vegetation, Here summer season prevails from March to July month. From July to October, we can expect monsoon season and from November to February, we can expect winter season. Winter is best time to visit this site due to good birding in this region, migratory birds arrives and favorable climatic condition for walking, trekking and boating.

Bhind is a small town thus here we can't expect good accommodation facility. Tourists visiting Ater fort, mostly prefers to stay at Gwalior hotels. Gwalior is the nearest airport with professional hotels in different budget category thus it is best place for stay and visit Ater fort as excursion tour.
