Vijayraghavgarh is name of a small town in Katni district. Its name is derived from its fort called Vijayraghavgarh fort. It was built in year 1826 by the local ruler Raja Saryuprasad, s/o Raja Prayagdas. They were the local rulers and related with the rulers of near by Maihar town. This small town is located 38km north-east of Katni city and very well connected by road. At present Vijayraghavgarh fort is in good condition with lot of things to see, witness and analyze. Here we can find rang-mahal, kitchen area, meeting point, rooms, shopping point, guards room etc. Its location was strategically important and naturally secured by river, hill and deep man-made ditch, kept filled with water and crocodiles. At present, we can visit this fort by road journey from Katni city. One can visit the fort in between sunrise to sunset. Here everything was going fine till 1857 when ruler of Vijayraghavgarh participated in nation wise revolt against British India rule. During this period, war took place between British India forces and soldiers of Vijaraghavgarh. Due to advance ammnation and large man-power, British India forces defeated the soldiers and gave severe damage to the fort complex. One part of the fort complex is still in damaged condition and kept it in same way till now as a mark of memory of the war. After the defeat in the war, king was given capital punishment and many of the prisioners of war were suppose to be shifted to Jabalpur (Jubbulpore) city jail but many of them were hanged publically at Sleemanabad police station. Later on some of the statues like of tiger was shifted to Jabalpur city Kotwali police station and some are in Katni city.
