INTRODUCTION
Kundalpur is a sacred place in Jain religion. It is located near Damoh city in Central India, surrounded with scenic natural beauty. It lies in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh state in almost central of state. It is also known as Kundalgiri Siddha Kshetra and Kundalgiri. It is known for the Jain god Bade Baba Adinath Ji whose statue is shown in sitting posture called Padamasana. It is a 15 feet high statue of Baba Adinath. The current look of Kundalpur is inspired from Acharya Vidyasagar Ji. Now management of site is done by committee called Shri Digamber Jain Siddha Kshetra Kundalgiri Prabandhakarini Samiti. At present their are about 64 temples in Kundalpur. Among them, 42 are located on hill and 22 on foot hills. Whole area is located on a peaceful place surrounded by trees. Their is also one pond at site called "Vardhaman Sagar" having one Jain temple at middle of pond named as "Jal Mandir". It offer a nice look to whole site. Kumdalpur in Madhya Pradesh is easily accessible by road from Damoh, Hatta, Jabalpur, Sagar. Nearest railway station is at Damoh (35kms) and nearest airport is in Jabalpur (150kms).
KUNDALPUR HISTORY
Their are about 63 temples in Kundalpur in which 22 of them are famous for Bade Baba Bhagwan Adinath. These temples were built in 18th and 19th century and makes the site are Siddha Kshetra which means "place for state of enlightenment". It is the time of Kalchuri rule (7th - 13th century) in Central India, during which Jainism flourished in this region. Temples constructed during that time are known for their architectural and design and were popular structures in that region. But later due to several military invasions in region, many of them were demolished or defaced causing them to abandoned in to ruins.According to ancient incription, this temple was re-discovered by Bhattaraka Surendrakirti. During that time, it was in ruins condition. Later his disciples take the initiative to rebuilt the ruins in which that time powerful Bundela dynasty ruler Maharaja Chhatrasal gave due assistance.
