Today Bundela dynasty is synonmous to Orchha as it was parent state of kingdom. It was Bundela dynasty on whch this whole region was named as Bundelkhand region. They are Rajput clan and in local diety they called themselves derived from drop of blood offered to Vindhya Vasini godess. In Hindi language one drop is termed as Boond thus they derived the word Bundela from Boond word. In past this whole region was part of Chedi kingdom and these rulers are believed to be drived from same kingdom. They are called from Suryavanshi Bundela clan.
There is long list of rulers in Bundela dynasty but popular history is different from actual history. Earlier they were ruling from Garh Kudar thus this place were the capital city. Later in 16th century they shifted to Orchha and made there capital township. After shifting to Orchha, they gained more prominence in the region and hold this place for a long period of time.
