Sarod Ghar is a museum dedicated for music lovers of the world. It is located in the Jiwaji Ganj area of Gwalior city in Madhya Pradesh. It is also known by the name as Kala Vithika which simply means center for art and music. It is housed in the ancestral home of Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. He donated his ancestral property for Sarod Ghar and it currently owned by Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Memorial Trust. Main objective behind this idea is to create awareness about Indian Classical music and develop interest among youths for Indian musical instruments. During local city tour of Gwalior, we often take our music lover guests to this museum to understand the greatness of Gwalior city and tradition of music in Madhya Pradesh region.
As per its name, Sarod Ghar exhibits ancient musical instruments of great Indian masters, photographic collection of past events and epic documents. Here we will find the instruments belonging to the forefathers of Amjad Ali Khan. Here we can see sarods of Nanne Khan and Rabab belonging to Ghulam Bandagi Khan Bangash, instruments belonging to Haafiz Ali Khan and Asghar Ali Khan etc.
