Bheemkund zone in Satpura national park allows access to Churna forest. It lies in core forest thus considered as core safari zone. From tourism point of view, it is more popular among tourists as it allows access to critical tiger habitat and offer good chance for tiger photography which is often the main obejctive behind jungle safaris. It lies in southern part of tiger reserve area and well connected with other core safari zones like Madhai zone, Bori wildlife sanctuary, Mallupura zone thus Bheemkund zone forest have good chance for animals to move in between 3 core zones. Many times this zone is referred Churna zone because popular Churna forest rest house is part of this safari zone.
This safari zone is very well secured from all 4 sides. It has 3 core zones on north, east and west direction. We usually enters from southern direction, through a buffer zone forest area. It means for reaching Bheemkund zone, first we enters from Bheemkund gate and drive through buffer zone forest for approx. 30 minutes and then reports at Churna forest rest house and begins our core zone safari. While driving in buffer zone, we cross some rivers, through bridges. One of such bridge allows us to cross local Bheemkund river. As entry gate is close to this river thus its name was given as Bheemkund zone.
As mentioned above, for reaching Bheemkund core zone, we first drive through a buffer zone forest. Thus from resort to entry gate and from entry gate to Churna rest house, we will find that animals sighting will be poor but birds may be seen frequently. We will notice the region as more rocky, dry. Due to rocky topography, here vegetation is not so dry and waterholes are very limited. This is the reason why animals movement is poor and marks of abandoned village areas, village routes, village name sign boards are often seen. Once we will reach the Churna rest house, we officially enters into the core zone forest and from here we will automatically notice the dramatic change in topography, vegetation and animals movement. Bheemkund zone topography is more or less plain, in compare to Madhai zone. During safari drive, we will find many lofty hilly terrains also like Ghutti baba point etc. Hilly are mostly rocky with forested view and offers vertical cliff formations.
If you are doing jungle safaris in Bheemkund zone then you will have limited stay options in which most of them are in deluxe or luxury categories.
