Western Group of Temples

Introduction

Khajuraho tourism

When we try to study more about Khajuraho temples, located at Madhya Pradesh state in India, we often read some phrases like Western Group of Temples, Eastern Group of Temples etc. What does it really means ? Acutally in past when Chandela rulers were in process of developing these classic temples, there was not division in terms of Western, Eastern or Southern. These terms were later introduced by management authorities, as per the rediscovery of these temples and their locations in relation to Khajuraho town. Those cluster of temples who are in West side of town were given name Western group of temples and those who are in East direction, were given name as Eastern group of temples. Here we have shared some useful information on Western group of temples. It is the largest group of temples, among the all defined temples groups of Khajuraho. Majority of temple images we mostly found in media are taken from this group. It is located just adjoining to Shiv Sagar tank and surrounded by wall which protects these temples from unauthorized person and helps in proper management and care. It is a closed campus thus for visiting these temples, we need to buy entry tickets and can visit for a limited time period only.

Where it is located ?

Western group of temples complex is located in western part of Khajuraho town. The road connecting Khajuraho town, from Khajuraho town, from Bamitha etc takes us straight to this complex. Thus it is very easy to reach this group of temples. If you are new and facing problem in location, use google map and just type Western Group of Temples or Kandariya Mahadev temple or Shivsagar lake etc. You will easily find the pathway to reach this complex. Here we have to note that its entry gate and exit gates are different thus we have to first check for its actual entry gate. On reaching Shivsagar lake, a pathway goes in left direction, leads to the entry gate of Western Group of temples. If your mobile phone is not working then you can ask anybody in local to find the entry gate or may read the boards leading to the the entry gate. Here sufficient parking space is available for cars and coaches thus one can travel by car or tourist bus.

Entrance Tickets

Earlier, just like anyother monuments, here we were able to find the ticket counter with person who accepts cash INR (Indian Rupee) or card payment and issues the entrance ticket to all kind (Indian or Foreigner) of visitors. But now a days, entrance procedure is slightly changed. Now a days, management authroity closed the window selling of tickets, against cash INR. or card payment. Instead of this, they provided a banner with QR code. Tourists are required to scan the QR code, by using their mobile phone scanner app or GooglePay (GPay) or PhonePe app and make the payment. Thus cash or card swipe mode of payment is not possible. It is a genuine problem for those visitors who are still not aware of scan and pay system. Many foreigner tourists faces this problem. If your phone is not working or internet facility is unavailable to you then better idea is to visit the ASI official website and book your entrance ticket in advance and visit this site with that ticket. If you are not able to book entry ticket in this mode then ask your local service provider or cab driver or guide to do the entrance ticket booking for you and you make payment to him.
