Here in Madhya Pradesh, tourism was promoted aggressively after year 2000 in which department tried to promote whole state as tourism hub where tourists of all categories & with different interests, will get something to see and explore.
Madhya Pradesh Tourism is popular for its heritage tourism in Northern part of state, Pilgrimage & Nature tourism in Western part of state and Wildlife or Nature tourism in Central, Eastern & Southern part of state. It is the region in which we can find mainly heritage monuments, forts, palaces, ancient temples, tombs, cenotaphs etc. This region lies in Bundelkhand region thus it is more dry and rocky region where stones are easily available thus it was easy to construct forts & palaces in this region. Here we can find destinations like Gwalior, Orchha, Shivpuri, Chanderi, Khajuraho etc. In this region, we can enjoy adventure activities like river rafting in Orchha, trekking in Chanderi hills, boating in Shivpuri and Panna region, jungle safaris in Panna national park.
It is the region of state which is known for its pilgrimage tourism, due to presence of two famous Jyotirlinga temples in this region i.e. Mahakaleshwar temple and Mamaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple. Western Madhya Pradesh comprises destinations like Indore, Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandu, Hanuwantiya, Sailani, Bhopal, Burhanpur, Mandsaur, Gandhi Sagar and much more. Here we can find both heritage and pilgrimage attractions. Even due to presence of holy Narmada river, nature tourism is also good. In this region, boating and water sports are very popular among adventure lovers. Destinations like Maheshwar, Sailani, Hanuwantiya, Gandhi Sagar are popular for water sports on river and backwater of dams. If you are looking for adventure to stay in any island then Sailani is the best place to spend time which is surrounded by water from all sides. We can reach this island, through boatride only. Similarly Gandhi Sagar have Hinglaj resort where we can stay and enjoy water sports, rock paintings and historical sites visit at same destination.
This region of state is know for its wildlife and nature tourism. In compare to Northern and Western parts of state, it is more green, more fertile and more scenic. All major tiger reserves of Central India like Bandhavgarh, Kanha tiger reserve, Satpura Tiger Reserve, Pench Tiger Reserve are located in this region. This region is known for its dense forest, laying on Vindhya and Satpura ranges. In tourism sector, it is also called tiger country. Those we are wildlife lover and interested in tiger photography and wildlife photography, they should must visit this region of Madhya Pradesh state. Here jungle safaris & nature walks can be done in all these national parks. Apart from this, conoe ride, boating, core zone walking safari can be enjoyed in Satpura tiger reserve. Its core zone walking safari is rare experience because you will find yourself in real dense jungle with forest guide. Core zone walking safari is not allowed in other national parks. Similarly trekking is possible in Pachmarhi hill station, which is just adjoining to Satpura national park. Here ropeway and boating through marble rocks valley can be experience in Bhedaghat tourist spot, near Jabalpur city.
