Wildlife safari dress

Bandhavgarh national park is open for tourists, throughout the year. It means tourists can visit this national park at any month of the year. As it is a part of Bandhavgarh tiger reserve thus here we will find core-buffer areas and tourists prefers to visit core zones. These core safari areas of this national park are open from October to June months which means it remains closed in monsoon season months. Thus here majority of tourists are visiting in winters and summer seasons. Thus according to climatic conditions and ground situation, guests are need to carry their tour dresses so that they will travel conveniently and enjoy the trip.

Safari Dress Queries

When occasional or first time visitor starts their tour packing, some dress related questions arises in their mind like:

  • What will be the ideal proportion of woolen dress and summer dress ?
  • Which colored dresses should I carry ?
  • Which design of dress to carry like how many shirts, t-shirts, shorts, trousers, cap or hat, scarf required or not etc ?
  • Which cloth material dresses will be ideal to carry like cotton dress or nylon or polyester dress ?
  • Which color of shoes will be good ?
  • What kind of shoes to carry like sports shoes or sneakers or floaters or leather shoes or sandals etc.

These types of questions are very normal and obvious for first time visitors. Here we have tried to answer them so that this will help the visitors in doing proper planning and have convenience during tour.

Recommended Safari Clothing

Here you will find the list of items which are considered ideal to carry during jungle safari trips.

Clothing Items Description
Shirts Long-sleeved, breathable cotton or moisture wicking fabrics will be good. During safaris, jeeps will be open to sky thus it will protect skin from direct sunlight. At resort, it will also protect skin from insects or mosquito bites. Try to pick colors like beige, jungle green, grey, light brown etc.
T-shirts During autumn or spring season, many tourists like to wear t-shirts during safaris. It is also useful during free time at resort or visiting local village or doing nature walks or roaming inside resort campus. More convenient than shirts, during leisure time.
Trousers Full-length, lightweight cargo pants are useful during safaris. Here cargo pants are more comfortable than jeans as during safaris, most of the time we have to remain in sitting position on safari vehicle.
Jackets Light fleece or windcheater are very useful during morning safari drives. At early morning 1-2 hrs we may feel cold as safari starts 30 minutes before sunrise. On rise in temperature we can easily put them in our bag. From December to February you may feel its requirement.
Hat / Cap With the sunrise, we will feel the requirement of cap. Wide-brimmed hat or baseball styled cap protects our face from direct sunlight. It also protects our head from dust, arises due to other safari vehicles movement. It is something which is useful in all seasons.
Glasses Here we have option to carry plain anti-glare glasses or may use sun-glasses, as per our convenience. If you are engaged in frequent photography then plain glasses are more useful than sun-glasses.
Footwear Here shoes are recommended over sandals. For safety point of view, closed-toe shoes or light weight hiking boots or sneakers or floaters are useful during safari drives. At Bandhavgarh, resorts offer nature walks thus in such activities sports shoes, hiking boots, sneakers. Avoid sandals or formal shoes in jungle tours.
Scarf / Buff They are also important part of dress as dust is a major concern during jeep safari drives. When many vehicles moves on same safari trail, dust arises which settles down on our cloths, face, hands and gadgets like binocular, cameras etc. At the same time, if we are on safari while wearing t-shirts then with the sunrise, we may feel skin itching due to direct sunlight. In such cases scarf or buff proves very useful.

Dress as per Season

Carrying dress as per climatic conditions is very important. We need to pack right combination of dresses as per possible climatic conditions at Bandhavgarh national park. Many times, due to improper climatic condition details, carries wrong combination of dress like more woolen dress in rising temperature or carrying less woolen dress when temperature is falling etc. Thus we need to study this information.

Season Clothing Tips
Oct-Nov Lightweight breathable clothing are okay. Full sleeve shirts or t-shirts are good enough to carry. Woolen dress will not be required.
Dec-Mid March It is a winter season period thus carry 50% cotton full-sleeve dresses and 50% woolen dress. Windcheaters are recommended during this time. Cotton dress will be more used during daytime where as at early morning and later evening, woolen dresses will proved more useful. Here majority of resorts also provide blankets to tourists, during safari drives.
Mid March - June This will be the summer period when we need to carry more cotton clothing. In Apr-June, we will face heat waves thus in this period, must wear full-sleeve cotton dress, scarf, hat, sunglasses to protect body from direct heat stroke.

Just for an idea, which month will have how much average temperature range, just refer the below given table. It will give you rough idea of morning-evening and day time temperature. Here lower temperature is of morning or late evening hours and higher temperature represents the day-time temperature.

What to Avoid

Their are certain points we should must know to avoid innocent or deliberate mistakes for better safari experience.

Avoidable Things Reasons
Bright color or shiny dresses It distracts animals and birds due to which they may leave the spot and thus your sighting experience will fall, sighting duration may reduce, lose photography opportunities.
Strong perfumes Animals are very sensitive towards smells. Perfume smell may annoy them and they will run away from spot. This will be cause adverse effect on sighting probability.
Shiny jewelry or accessories Shiny items like bracelets, necklace, mobile flash, camera flash etc. may distract the animals and birds thus should be avoided or covered.
