Introduction

Magadhi zone in Bandhavgarh tiger reserve

At Bandhavgarh national park, Magadhi zone is also referred as zone-2, by local guides and safari drivers. It lies in south of Tala zone and Khitauli zone.  It is a semi hilly terrain and comparatively larger than Tala zone thus during jeep safaris, here we covers a vast forest areas with meadows, wetlands etc. As per local dieties, in past, many meditation practioners, holy saints use to live at natural caves of this forest and do their spiritual and meditation practices. Majority of them were from Magadh kingdom (today's Bihar state) thus local people started calling this forest part as Magdhi's forest. It is a local belief only and not supported by any documentary proof. Due to a core zone forest, here all rules and regulation related to core zone safaris are applicable. It is surrounded by buffer zone forest, from 3 sides where as northern face shares border with Tala zone. 

Topography

As mentioned above, this zone lies in southern part of tiger reserve and also at south of Tala zone. In compare to Tala zone forest, it is less hilly and more plain with vast meadow areas, bamboo forest, sal forest and some rocky terrains. Here we will find more number of natural wetlands and some man-made waterholes. During safari drive, we will find some rocky terrains also like Bagh Dalaka caves point etc.
